Getting up in the morning is one of those life skills your child needs to learn. It may be a hassle at first, but fortunately, you have a lot of tools at hand. When children are small, it’s usually the parents who wake the kids up. But as they grow older, they need to learn to do it on their own. That is why you need an alarm clock for your kids. But we all know that kids won’t like that plain alarm clock that an adult has in his room. You need something to make waking up in the morning fun, which is why manufacturers have created alarm clocks just for kids.
The benefits of a kids’ alarm clock
You may think of it as a simple alarm clock, but in reality, it has a lot of benefits for you and your child. As an adult, you know what you want from your alarm clock, like a radio or a snooze button, but children have other interests. They don’t care as much if they have a radio, as much as they care if their alarm clock looks like their favorite cartoon character.
Your child will learn the responsibility of getting up in the morning
If you have kids, then you know that this is a huge milestone. Waking up is a responsibility that your child must learn preferably before he or she goes to school. It may seem like nothing to you, but someone had to do that for you when you were just a kid. Maybe you didn’t have a Batman-shaped alarm clock, but children these days have it a lot easier. The point is that your child will go from the tiny irresponsible person living in your house to the kid who is already up by the time you get out of bed. I don’t know about you, but for me it means something.
Waking up in the morning will be fun
Your alarm clock may be simple, but it won’t do for a child. Many parents say that the key to success with kids is to make things look fun. That way they will associate responsibility with a likable activity, and they will keep doing it. A kid’s alarm clock has to be fun, to have a lot of colors, and be in the shape of your child’s favorite cartoon characters. Some even speak in the voices your children love. If that doesn’t make waking up fun, I don’t know what can.
You’ll have one less responsibility
I suppose you are familiar with your child going back to sleep after you have just gone into his or her room to do the awakening. That happens to a lot of parents, but once the child understands that waking up in the morning is his or her responsibility and that there are consequences for not following through, you will get rid of that frowny little face in the morning.
I suppose that there are more benefits than what I just said, but that’s what is important to me. Teaching your child accountability is one of the most significant things parents can pass on to their children. It’s a tremendous pressure for a simple kids’ alarm clock, but if that’s what it takes to teach your children responsibility, then so be it.
What to consider when buying a kid’s alarm clock
One of the best things about children is that they are honest almost 100% of the time. So if your child will not like the alarm clock, he or she will tell you right away.
Ask your child what he or she wants. If you buy something your child doesn’t like, waking up in the morning will not be as fun as you have to make it look. Hence your kids will hate it and teaching them to wake up in the morning will take longer than it should. Ask about favorite colors, songs, and even animals and cartoon characters. If your little girl is in love with Frozen, clearly she will want an Elsa alarm clock. That was just an example, I don’t know if there is an Elsa alarm clock, but you understand my point. The more the child likes the alarm clock, the bigger chances you have of teaching him or her how to wake up in the morning.
Always go for a digital alarm clock. I don’t know how old you were when you learned how to read the time, but digital clocks make things so much easier. You can’t expect a 6-year-old to read an analog, do you?
It is up to you if you want an alarm clock that you can plug in or a battery-operated one. I guess it matters where you are going to place it and if there is a wall outlet there. Most people have an outlet by their nightstands, but there is an advantage to a battery-operated kid’s alarm clock. Children learn very fast, and if they understand the use of the snooze button, they may have some trouble. So if you put the alarm clock someplace else, the child will need to get up to shut it off. He or she gets up, you have a morning kid, and everybody wins.
I always say that the more features, the better. One of the additional features I like about kids’ alarm clocks is the night light. Children sometimes wake up during the night to go to the bathroom, which is why you need a night light. You can find them in stores, and you can plug them in, but if there is an alarm clock with a built-in night light, then why not? That way you can make sure that your child will have some visibility in the bedroom, and you can just install a night light in the hall. Simple as that.
What are the best kids’ alarm clocks?
Since children like so many things, manufacturers have gone over their heads to please them all. You can find a vast variety of alarm clocks for kids, so many that you don’t know where to start. If your child is one of those kids sure of themselves and what they like, then your job is easy. However, some children are not as determined, and buying stuff for them is confusing. That is why I put together three amazing kids’ alarm clocks that any child would love. It should make your job a little bit easier.
DreamSky Digital Alarm Clock with Timer and Night Light

This alarm clock is not in the shape of a colorful cartoon character, but you can find it in a variety of fun colors that appeal to children. You can rotate it any way you like, it will still show the time straight. It features an alarm clock, a timer, a temperature display, and the days of the week. If your child can read, that will come in handy.
The LCD screen is large enough to see the time from across the room. Setting the clock is very easy. There are only two buttons on the back of the device. What you’ll like about this alarm clock, and will prove to be very useful for your child, is the Smart Night Illumination feature. That means a very soft light will turn on automatically while the dark sets in. Your child will be able to see on his or her way to the bathroom during the night.
The alarm sound is adjustable, you can turn it louder or lower. The signal will last 1 minute every morning, and there is no snooze button. I believe that this is an ideal alarm clock for children who are not very picky in this kind of situation. It is colorful, it has a fun design, and it will do the job it was created for. The clock is battery-operated. All you need is three AAA batteries (they are not included in the package.)

uscce Small Colorful Alarm Clock for Kids’ Bedroom

The alarm clock from uscce goes perfectly with any kid’s bedroom. It’s colorful and fun, and the big colorful numbers are easy to read whether it’s day or night. I also liked that the display brightness is adjustable from 0 to 100%, allowing your child to set a preference.
The clock can be set to 12 or 24 hours, whichever your child prefers. However, the one feature that makes this product the perfect choice for kids is that it can brighten the room, making it a great night light. Your child can choose between 7 nightlight color options.
As for the alarm itself, the uscce alarm clock comes with 5 alarm sound options – Beep, Buzzer, Bird sound, Soft music, and Piano Music. The volume is also adjustable from 30 to 90 dB. Other than that, this model is very easy to use. The snooze button is right on top, and it’s this button that creates the Ambiental light.
With an integrated USB port, the kids’ alarm clock from uscce can be used to charge your phone, tablet, and any other device whose charger comes with a USB. While you can plug it in, you also have the option of powering it with 3 AA batteries. In case of a power outage, the time and setting are saved. Due to the fact that the clock uses a decent amount of power, I don’t advise you to let it run on batteries. I would put in the batteries just as a power backup.

Lego Superman Alarm Clock

Children are often drawn to their favorite superheroes, so it makes sense that manufacturers create alarm clocks shaped like them. Add legos to the equation, and your job is done. The perfect example is this Lego Superman-shaped alarm clock that your child will absolutely love. Superman is not the only character available. You can also find Wonder Woman, Emmet from the Lego Movie, Batman, Star Wars Stormtrooper, and many others.
If your child loves and has a lot of legos, this alarm clock will make an excellent addition to his or her collection. The Superman-shaped alarm clock features a digital clock and a blue-lighted display. The alarm sound is a buzzer, but it comes with a snooze function. Both snooze and backlight functions are activated by pressing on the figurine’s head.
The Superman alarm clock is powered by 2 AAA batteries. It can also move its hands and legs. Your child can put the figurine in any position he or she likes. It can sit, stand, or even kick. Many parents claim that their children also use the clock as a toy. I guess that is okay as long as the child is old enough to understand that the clock must not be broken.

My recommendation
I think that kids these days are lucky to have so many choices in alarm clocks. All I had was an analog that had a key at the back of it and needed to be turned every night. I am a little jealous, but also happy that kids can enjoy all those things. As far as my recommendation goes, I will choose the cube, the uscce Small Colorful Alarm Clock for Kids’ Bedroom. The fact that it lightens up in different colors and is easy to use makes it one of the best kid’s alarm clocks on the market.
Conclusion
Teaching your children accountability is not an easy thing to do. You need to take it slow, start small, and have a lot of patience. Starting with teaching them how to be morning persons can be hard. But as long as you have access to all kinds of fun stuff, your job is a lot easier.
